About Us

At Portsmouth Citadel, you can be sure of a warm welcome whether you are 8 or 80! We have weekly Sunday services – if you are visiting the area and want to attend a church, looking for somewhere to worship or even just curious as to what The Salvation Army is all about, we would be pleased to see you. There’s no need to wear a uniform – in fact many in our regular congregation don’t.

Details of the Sunday church services at Portsmouth Citadel can be found on the right, with more details and those in the coming weeks on the ‘events and services’ page. However, you may not feel that attending a service on a Sunday is the right thing for you at this stage – so why not just come along to one of our other events? Again, you can always be sure of a friendly atmosphere.

Haven Community Centre

Portsmouth Citadel Salvation Army provide a thriving community programme through the work of The Haven Community Centre. It serves the local community and endeavours to demonstrate ‘Christianity with its sleeves rolled up’.

The Haven Community Centre is one of the largest and most diverse expressions of community service to be found in The Salvation Army in the UK. A dedicated team of 35 staff and over 150 volunteers help to ensure that the wide range of services provided to the Portsmouth community are of high quality.

Programme

Programmes include a community café, charity shops, the Good Neighbours befriending scheme for socially isolated older people, furniture service, full-time nursery, hairdressing, conference and training facilities, Home Shopper service, ladies meeting, over 60s club and much more…

The Haven Community Centre’s work is well respected in the city and further afield. The centre holds the ‘Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service’, the MBE for volunteer groups. The Haven Nursery’s recent OFSTED inspection graded the nursery as ‘Outstanding’. The Haven’s Good Neighbours befriending and support service holds the ‘Approved Provider Standard’ (APS), a national benchmark for organisations providing one-to-one, volunteer mentoring or befriending.
