Faryl Smith wows the crowd at Proms
Portsmouth Citadel Salvation Army’s ‘Last Night of the Proms’ event was held on Saturday 8 October in the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth. Around 350 people gathered for a fantastic fun evening of music and flag-waving.
Portsmouth Citadel Band opened the evening in style with a fantastic rendition of Bach’s Toccata, the band’s other pieces included O Magnum Mysterium, and March from the First Suite in Eb. Portsmouth Citadel Songsters presented several songs including Sanctus, Love Divine, and The Seal Lullaby.
Star of the show was special guest: Faryl Smith, Britain’s Got Talent finalist 2008. Faryl wowed the audience with her wonderful singing of songs including The Prayer, Song to the Moon, and Ave Maria.
The evening was compered by Lt. Col. Stephen Smith. Stephen also presented some music on the oboe including Gabriel’s Oboe and The Watermill.
The audience captured the proms spirit with their enthusiastic flag waving and singing! The event, which was held in aid of The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal, raised over £3000.
Special thanks goes to The Hampshire Flag Company who donated the flags for the event.
