Salvationists in Portsmouth have long known that Retired Corps Sergeant Major George Brown is an exceptional fellow. Well, now it is official!
After learning of the breadth of George’s work and service, both within The Salvation Army and in his professional life, Commissioner André Cox – Territorial Commander of The Salvation Army in the UK - has awarded George the ‘Certificate of Exceptional Service’. This is the highest honour that a Territorial Commander can bestow upon a Salvationist and one that we believe George is more than worthy to receive.
During morning worship on 12th August, Lieutenant Colonel Graham Owen, Divisional Commander of the Southern Division, highlighted George’s achievements and presided over the presentation of the certificate. In his words of thanks George quoted a well-known hymn that has served as his lifetime motto,
‘Just as I am, young, strong and free,
To be the best that I can be
For truth and righteousness and thee,
Lord of my life, I come’.
George – we salute you!
