Proms Goes Pop went off with a bang at the New Theatre Royal on Friday 28 September 2012. Hundreds of people gathered at the theatre for an evening of popular and classical music, along with lots of fabulous flag waving in aid of The Salvation Army's 'Big Collection' appeal.
Portsmouth Citadel Band presented items including 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Holst's Second Suite in F'. The songster songs included 'One Voice', 'Wherever You Are' and 'Carry the Light'.
Special guest, vocal soloist Darren Bartlett, thrilled the audience with his fantastic singing of 'You Raise Me Up' and 'Love Changes Everything'. Darren was joined by vocalist Susanne Dymott as together they sang the beautiful duet 'The Prayer'. An inspiring young brass soloist, thirteen year old Alexandra Walker, wowed the crowd with her amazing playing of 'Concert Etude' on cornet.
The evening was wonderfully compered by BBC Radio Solent's Tim Daykin who led the evening through in a fun and light-hearted style. The band and Susanne Dymott led through the 'Last Night of the Proms' style finale and the audience lifted the roof with the singing of 'Rule Britannia' and 'Jerusalem'.
A great evening was enjoyed by all with over £2000 raised for the 'Big Collection' appeal.
