The Good Neighbours scheme is a befriending and support service intended for vulnerable adults and carers who suffer the effects of social and emotional isolation. The scheme operates in the city of Portsmouth.
The scheme provides befriending either by way of a regular visit or telephone call. The scheme is able to support individuals with short term and longer term support needs though emphasis is placed on helping individuals to reable back into the community and to regain their independence.
The Good Neighbours team are able to provide valuable information and support to service users and volunteers.
Good Neighbours supports between 150 and 250 people at any one time, this is made possible by a large team of volunteer befrienders.
Under the umbrella of the Good Neighbours scheme is the Home Shopper Service. The Home Shopper Service has two shoppers who shop for up to 60 housebound older people around the city.

The Salvation Army’s Good Neighbours scheme holds the Approved Provider Standard from the entoring & Befriending Foundation.
The Approved Provider Standard (APS) is the national quality standard designed specifically for all types of mentoring and befriending projects. Projects which meet the requirements of the standard are accredited for three years.
The Salvation Army’s Good Neighbours Scheme is commissioned by Portsmouth City Council.
